A new wrestling award was created this year in memory of Jared Corkran, according to Coach Prado. Corkran passed away Nov. 17 in Arkansas due to an ATV accident.

Players and coaches will vote for the player that most deserves the award. Each year the best teammate will be picked, and their name will be etched into a plaque that will be displayed in the trophy case. The Jared Corkran Memorial Award will be presented at the wrestling banquet in March.

Sophomore Jacob Orr said that Corkran found a love in wrestling. He was on the wrestling team both of his years at the school. Wrestling coach Mike Prado said Jared was always a hard worker.

“His wrestling was really improving,” Prado said. “We just miss him as a person we had come to know over the past two years.”

Orr said he loved video games and was always happy.

“He just accepted everyone for who they were,” Orr said.

Orr and Corkran shared many experiences together, but Orr specifically remembers when Orr first got his license.

“I just remember the smile on his face,” Orr said. “He was just laughing so hard; he was loving it,” Orr said.

Although he was young, he still had time to touch many people’s lives.

“He’s basically impacted my life more than anyone… and just made me a better person in general,” Orr said.

He also impacted sophomore Kristi Franck. She spent New Year’s with Corkran and Orr this year. Although Franck said he was quiet, she said he was also very funny and generous and had a very positive attitude.

“He would light up a room,” Franck said. “So it kind of made you appreciate the little things a lot more.

Balloons painted the sky this past Monday morning before school as former classmates of sophomore Jared Corkran remembered him. Corkran passed away Nov. 17 in Arkansas due to an ATV accident.
